SELF-REFLEXIVE WESTERNS

SELF-REFLEXIVE WESTERNS
Quite often, Westerns of the late 20th century, perhaps due to a nostalgic feeling that the genre was losing force, became reflexive, became commentaries on the genre itself. Clint Eastwood’s later Westerns such as Unforgiven (1992), The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), and Pale Rider (1985) are commentaries on the genre itself as much as anything else. Another such film is The Quick and the Dead (1995).
